Minister of Water Resources: The low water level of Tigris River in this time of the year is normal procedure

H.E. the Minister of Water Resources Eng. Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani declared that the low water levels of Tigris River in this time of the year is normal, since this is a transitional period between winter and summer agricultural plan, adding that this procedure is normal and the level will gradually increase due to the rational management of the Ministry of Water Resources.

H.E. the Minister clarified that this year witnessed a decrease of rainfall which affect the area ,in general, and Iraq ,in particular, because Iraq is a downstream country adding that the ministry worked on reducing shortage effect through implementing number of strategic projects in a record time.

H.E. also clarified that the ministry was able to achieve the winter agricultural plan and ensure water shares for summer season in addition to treating water shortage in Diyala governorate.

H.E. the Minister added that the ministry works on supporting the agricultural sector through providing water shares referring that the ministry is going on with its campaign to remove encroachments which will contribute in fair water distribution, adding that in spite of the challenges and circumstances, the ministry is working on achieving projects significant for the citizen life.

H.E. also added that the flood rate in the marshes is over scheduled; explaining that marshes sustainment and the provision of its water shares is to ensure the permanent inclusion within the world heritage.

H.E. the Minister referred to the positive progress achieved with the Turkish side through the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding, calling for sharing benefit and harm with downstream countries.
